Connect Marketing Cloud to Formentic

A Marketing Cloud admin does this once. It gives Formentic four permissions, and nothing else.

  • 6 steps
  • About 5 minutes
  • Done once, in the Business Unit of your forms
  1. Open Installed Packages
  2. Name the package
  3. Add an API Integration
  4. Grant four permissions
  5. Copy five details
  6. Paste them in Formentic

What Formentic asks for

Data Extensions: read and writeCreate Formentic’s tables and folders and your submissions table, and change their columns.
Saved Content: read and writeWrite your Cloud Page code and your emails into Formentic’s content blocks, so updating them is a click.
Documents and Images: read and writeUpload images to your Content Builder: the screenshots of testing and the images in your emails.
Email: read and writeSave the emails you build into Content Builder, and keep the triggered sends that use them up to date.

Never: Contacts and subscribers · Automation Studio · Journeys (Read is optional, to show journey names). Answers are saved by your own Cloud Page. Formentic never reads them. The secret is encrypted before it is stored.

Open Installed Packages

In Marketing Cloud, go to Setup, Apps, Installed Packages and choose New. Do this in the Business Unit where your forms should live.

Name the package

Any name you will recognise later. We suggest:

NameFormentic Forms
DescriptionCreates Formentic’s Data Extensions, Cloud Page code and emails

Add an API Integration

Choose Add Component, API Integration, then select Server-to-Server as the integration type. Not Web App, not Public App.

Grant exactly four permissions

On the scope screen, tick these and nothing else:

Data Extensions: Read and Write (under Data)
Saved Content: Read and Write (under Assets)
Documents and Images: Read and Write (under Assets)
Email: Read and Write (under Channels)
Leave every other box unticked. Formentic does not need them and will not use them.

Save, then copy five details

Save the package and open the API Integration component. Copy these from it:

  • Client Id
  • Client Secret
  • Authentication Base URI
  • REST Base URI
  • MID

The MID is the ID of the Business Unit you installed the package in. You do not need the SOAP URI.

Paste them in Formentic

Sign in, open Workspace › Connections › Marketing Cloud and paste the five details. Formentic creates one folder named Formentic and its Data Extensions, in about a minute. This also starts your 14-day trial.

Doing this for a colleague? Don’t send the Client Secret by email or chat. Ask them to make you an Admin in Formentic so you can paste it yourself, or paste it together on a call.
Would you rather do this together?

Book a setup call and one of us goes through every step with you on a video call. You type the keys yourself, we never ask you to share them.
